Just how valuable are skilled and hard-working information technology employees? A recent survey by Robert Half International (NYSE: RHI) shows what CIOs think on the subject. Among 1,400 U.S. CIOs polled, from companies with 100 or more employees, 63% noted that they are providing professional development for such employees as a means of retaining top IT talent.

Among the other means of keeping these highly-skilled IT gurus in place and satisfied were:

- Flexible Schedules: 47%
- Increased Base Compensation: 41%
- Bonuses: 31%
- Equity Incentives: 9%

Only 23% of CIOs surveyed claimed to take no specific steps to retain IT professionals.
