A Brief History of IT and Computing from the Lakeland Ledger
By: mawist, September 12th, 2007
I found a cool blog post from the weekend at The Lakeland Ledger that described the retail history of the personal computer, most notably the TRS-80 from Tandy Corp that was released in 1977. The piece talks about the hesitancy with which manufacturers and retailers approached the concept of the personal computer in those days. And, of course, how the computer quickly came to dominate in almost every facet of our culture.
Lonnie Brown’s take on the ‘Trash 80′ and the subsequent rise of the PC is a nice piece of IT nostalgia. It brings back a time when computers were fun and new and our economy was wildly inefficient and built on a manufacturing back-bone. Today, it’s all about IT and the people who have the skills to fill the in-demand IT jobs.
